Jane Austen Discussion Group

Saturday, September 27
Start Time: 2:00 PM

A new Jane Austen discussion group will be starting in the Hamilton area.  The group’s focus will be books and movies by or about Jane Austen, her novels, her characters, her world and her legacy.  In this initial organizational meeting we'll choose the first month’s book selection and plan future meetings.  Group membership is free and open to all.

Jane AustenJane Austen (1775-1817) is one of the most widely-read and beloved authors in the English language, whose works include Sense & Sensibility (1811), Pride & Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815) and Northanger Abbey and Persuasion which were published posthumously.

The past two years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of films based on Jane Austen novels and events from the author’s life.  Jane Austen “sequels” written by 21st-century authors are also numerous and include fictionalized autobiographies (The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen by Syrie James), mysteries featuring the author herself (The Jane Austen Mysteries by Stephanie Barron) or beloved Austen characters as detectives (The Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mysteries by Carrie Bebris), as well as continuations (Mrs. Darcy’s Dilemma by Diana Birchall),  modern re-tellings of, and tributes to (Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler) Austen stories.

The discussion group will delve into all the various tributes to the life & work of Jane Austen.
