Word Pictures: Illustrations & Poetry by Rachael Ikins

Local poet and artist Rachael Ikins will present "Word Pictures," a collection of her illustrations and poetry from her new collection Slide-Show in the Woods.
Rachael Ikins was born and raised in the Fingerlakes region of CNY. She began writing poetry at age 7 and published her first piece in 8th grade with the help of a forward-thinking English teacher. She has won 8 awards for excellence in poetry since 2003 inlcuding first prize in the National League for American Penwomen competition sponsored by the Syracuse Post-Standard. She has attended the Colgate Writers' Conference on fellowship in 2007 and 2008.
Rachael has also done extensive work in photography. She is Artist-in-Residence at Sushi Blues and BBQs in Hamilton. Her work has appeared in shows ranging from Plowshares through the Syracuse Peace Council, the Stella Maris Strawberry Festival in Skaneateles and the Association of University Women art show and sale also in Skaneateles.
Rachael is a member of the Canastota Writers' Group, the Downtown Writers' Center of Syracuse, MAD Art co-op in Hamilton and Tri-county art co-op in Cobleskill. She is the founder and moderator of the local Hamilton poetry event "Monday Night Poetry" at Sushi Blues and BBQs.
She divides her time between residences in Albany and Erieville.
