Reunion Children's Program
Saturday, June 5
Start Time: 9:30 AM
9:30 to 11am. Join us for our annual children's program during Reunion Weekend. Children of all ages are invited for a morning of fun! Balloon artist Mike Lawler will create elaborate balloon hats, swords, flowers, and other balloon sculpture. Plus: music, crafts, games, stories and more! Ages 5 and under must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.
At 10:30am, children's author Jackie Jafarian Broad '90 will read from (and talk about the inspiration behind) her new picture book Grandma Wants to Eat my Baby Sister.
About the book:
Maddie misunderstands when Grandma says that her baby sister Alyssa is so delicious that she wants to "eat" her. At first, Maddie thinks she won't mind at all, but as she discovers that Alyssa is actually fun to have around, Maddie believes she will have to stop Grandma... before it's too late! This story reveals the comical side of what children commonly do -- misinterpret figures of speech. It's a story that will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. Really, we're not pulling your leg!
About the author:
Jackie Jafarian Broad graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in Mathematical Economics and from the NYU Stern's School of Business with an MBA in Marketing. She worked primarily in Planning & Analysis for major retailers and mostly wrote reports and recommendations.
After having children, Jackie perused bookstores and libraries to find books to share with them. Her belief in the importance of developing a love for books and reading gave her the motivation to try her hand at writing for children.
