Banned Book Readout 2010

Join us for a reading of banned books with members of the local communities, Colgate, and the MidYork Library System. Discussion to follow. Sponsored by the Hamilton Public Library and the Colgate Bookstore.
Celebrating the freedom to read, Banned Book Week is observed during the last week of September each year. Since 1982 the American Library Association has promoted Banned Book Week to remind Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.
Among this year's readers are:
* Bev Choltco-Devlin, from the MidYork Library system, giving an introduction and over-view on banned books, and reading from Lord of the Flies.
* John Blackmore, community member, reading from Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman
* Gretchen Clauss, Hamilton Central School, reading from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
* Elaine Connelly, Hamilton Public Library
* Heather Elia, Colgate Bookstore, reading from Geography Club by Brent Hartinger
* Evelyn Hart, Colgate faculty, reading from Beloved by Toni Morrison
* Jerry LaPlante, Lifelong Learners, reading from 1984 by George Orwell
* Matt Leone, Colgate faculty, reading from Women in Love by D.H. Lawrence
